Real vs. Hyperreal vs. Surreal Recordings

Every recording of a song can fall under 1 of 3 categories. These categories are real, hyperreal, and surreal. A recording is real when it sounds like a person or people could be playing it live. For example:


A song is hyperreal when it gives the appearance that it could be real and people could potentially be playing it. One can tell that it has been edited though and been perfected. An example of this could be-


A surreal song, is a song that does not give the illusion of real instruments at all. This is similar to many songs that are popular today.One surreal song is

No illusion of any instrument is present.
